Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum to Celebrate Statewide Connecticut Open House Day on June 8

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk will participate in the 15th Annual Connecticut Open House Day – a unified celebration of the state’s fascinating world of art, history, and tourism – on June 8, 2019, 12-4 p.m. at 295 West Avenue Norwalk, CT. During this one-day event, the Museum, along with more than 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state, will open its doors and offer special $5 Mini-Tours to visitors. This exciting statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism (COT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s exceptional cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their newfound discoveries with visiting family and friends. Visitors will have a chance to view two new exhibitions, From Corsets to Suffrage: Victorian Women Trailblazers, which features the efforts of local women and men towards the fight for women’s right to vote, and Historic Grounds & Modern Gardens, a juried contemporary art exhibition.

Silvermine establishes Fulbright residency and announces first artist in residence

Silvermine Arts Center has established a new Fulbright residency program, initiated and funded by artist and philanthropist Janet Hennessey Dilenschneider and Robert Dilenschneider, and managed by the International Institute of Education (IIE). Bridgeport Mayor Ganim announced today that the City of Bridgeport public parks officially open on Saturday, May 25th for the season. Seaside Park, Beardsley Park and Pleasure Beach will be open for Memorial Day weekend for residents and visitors with the purchase of a park sticker or day pass. SHS Senior Ivy Zingone Wins 4th District Congressional Art Competition
Stamford High School (SHS) Senior Ivy Zingone was chosen as the winner of this year’s 4th District Congressional Art Competition hosted by Congressman Jim Himes. Congressman Himes’ office announced the winners and those receiving honorable mentions in a release issued earlier this week. Zingone’s winning artwork, “Counting Screens,” is a graphite and colored pencil drawing featuring a baby in a crib reaching for a mobile of screens.

Several local celebrations of art, innovation and music on June 1 in Danbury
The first weekend in June will provide a wide variety of arts, music, food, entertainment, innovation and hands-on opportunities in Danbury. The Fourth annual Art at Ives, Juried Fine Art & Crafts Show will be from 1 to 7:30 p.m. with a concert by flutist Sherry Winston at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Ives Concert Park on Danbury’s west side. Saturday also will feature CityCenterDanbury’s Street Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. downtown on Main Street, and the Customer Appreciation Fair from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Housatonic Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 51 Austin St. in Danbury.

Community leaders kick up their heels for local theatre
Not since Cain and Abel has there been a fraternal rivalry like the one at Curtain Call's Dancing with the Stars event, Saturday night, May 18. And though there was a casket onstage later in the evening, there was no bloodshed, and one brother came out on top when Chris Carozza of the Carozza Realty Group, bested his brother, Michael Carozza of Carozza Fitness, by winning the Judges’ Choice Award (male division). Chris’ professional partner was Iraida Volodina of Arthur Murray Greenwich.
