SHU debuts in national rankings of best colleges by U.S. News & World report

For the first time in Sacred Heart University history, the college known for having the happiest students engaged in community service, was elevated to the national listing of U.S.News & World Report’s Best Colleges. According to the U.S.News website, “schools in the National Universities category offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus masters and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.” While Sacred Heart has been thriving and growing for the last 56 years, ranking on this list of the most prestigious national universities is evidence that the once commuter school has arrived on the national higher education scene.

WCSU to host Regional Lake Communities Symposium series
The Western Connecticut State University Integrative Biological Diversity graduate program, WCSU NOAA BWet Finding Our Way Office of Science Education Outreach and Praxair will host the first of three Regional Lake Communities Symposia, “What Do We Want From Our Lakes?” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, in Room 125 of the Science Building on the university's Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The symposium will include a panel discussion featuring representatives from Ball Pond, Candlewood Lake, Lake Housatonic, Lake Zoar and Lake Lillinonah. Aquatic ecosystem research partners Larry Marsicano, principal limnologist at Aquatic Ecosystem Research, and Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Associate Scientist Greg Bugbee, will discuss the use of triploid grass carp to control invasive aquatic vegetation. Peter Aarrestad, director of Inland Fisheries for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, will summarize the advantages and disadvantages of introducing grass carp to manage aquatic vegetation, and New Fairfield Health Director Tim Simkins and George Benson, of Benson Environmental, will discuss the long-term success of using grass carp.

Norwalk Community Health Center in top 10% of health centers nationwide
The US Department of Health and Social Services has recognized Norwalk Community Health Center, Inc. (NCHC) among the top 10% of health centers nationally for clinical quality. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), NCHC, a nonprofit 501(c)3 healthcare provider, is one of only 150 Health Centers out of more than 1,400 nationwide to achieve this gold standard milestone.

NBCUniversal Executives Host Panel of Digital Media Experts
On Monday, September 23, 2019, Stamford Innovation Week (SiW) and NBCUniversal’s Stamford Media Center will partner to present Digital Media Fest – an EXPO of local digital talent followed by a panel for media and marketing executives at the Stamford Media Center (307 Atlantic Street in downtown Stamford). The Digital Media EXPO will run from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm and is targeted for entrepreneurs, investors, business developers, designers, marketers, and service providers who want to discover new ideas in digital media. The panel will feature techniques and technologies used by NBCUniversal to promote their media brands.
